Common problems

Quick, step-by-step fixes for the things that come up most. How-to guides are coming soon.

Install & license

It's normal the first time. On Mac, right-click the app → Open and confirm. On Windows, in the prompt choose More info → Run anyway. It only happens once.

Paste your key (it starts with HIFILAT- and is 127 characters, no internal dashes) and press Activate. If it won't take it, make sure you copied it in full, with no spaces at the start or end.

Without a license the app works in full, with a cap of 50 songs you change (rip, edit, organize, convert…). Browsing and listening never use up the trial. At the cap, wait 7 days for another 50 (up to 200 total) or buy it for unlimited use. A Trial counter shows at the top right.

Your library

The first scan is slow because it reads the tags of every file. The app caches the result: the second time is instant. If you change a file externally, the cache updates on its own.

The app skips files that are in iCloud but not downloaded to your disk. In Finder, right-click the folder → Download Now to force the sync.

The file is read-only. In Finder: right-click → Get Info → change permissions to Read & Write. The app tries to fix it automatically, but macOS sometimes blocks it.

If a file doesn't respond, the app cancels it on its own after a few minutes and marks it as an error, without freezing the rest of the queue.

CDs & players

The CD must be mounted by the system (visible in Finder / Volumes). Some USB-C drives aren't recognized — try a different one.

Both are required to rip. In Settings → CD Ripper set your digitizer name, and in Settings → Advanced your MusicBrainz email. Then the CD Ripper opens normally.

If something fails

The audio engine ships inside the app, so it normally shouldn't appear. If you see it, it's usually an incomplete install: reinstall from hifilat.com.

Under Settings → Advanced → Export diagnostics the app writes a text file to your Desktop with the technical info needed (no personal data, no license). Attach it to an email to contacto@hifilat.com, along with a description of the problem and your system version.

Under Settings → Advanced → Erase my data the app returns to a fresh-install state (clears settings, license and cache). Your music is never touched.

About the "diagnostic": it's a technical file (version, platform, audio-engine status, last log lines) the app creates on your Desktop from Settings → Advanced → Export diagnostics. It doesn't include your music, your personal data or your license.
